The Early School children and staff send a big thank you to the Parents’ Council for providing “The First Thursday of the Month Entertainment” and pizza lunch. We look forward to the beginning of each new month to see an exciting new show.

Tu B’Shevat was celebrated the last weekend of January. In the Early School that took us right into the first week of February. In Israel, the children celebrate Israel’s connection with nature. There are signs everywhere of new spring growth. In our country, we don’t see signs of spring yet, except in our hearts and minds. At the Early School, we will plant indoors, hoping for sprouts to be transferred to our garden when spring arrives!

We are gratified by the response to current registration for 2010-2011 school year. Information on all classes is available in our Early School Office. We welcome your inquiries and would be pleased to arrange visits to see our facilities and witness the intellectual, creative, nurturing environment we provide for our children. These pre-school days are of great importance for your child. The first impressions they get outside their home environment are lasting ones, and we try our best to make these experiences rewarding and satisfying for each individual child. Temple membership is not a prerequisite for registration in any of our programs.

This year Purim arrives in February, so we will be very busy getting ready for this festive holiday. With the help of puppets, Founding Director Sheila Grossman will present the story of Esther, and the children will learn Purim songs celebrating the victory of the Jews. They also learn about sharing shalach manot, gifts of goodies for friends. Our celebration of Purim will include the Threes’ and K-Readys’ dressing up in costumes which reflect characters of the Megillah and parading before an audience of the Two Year Olds. The children of the Early School will participate in the baking of hamantaschen, the cookie in the shape of a triangle to represent Haman’s hat.

The Purim Carnival will take place Wednesday, February 24, from 4:00–6:00 PM in the Saul Reinfeld Hall. There will be games, prizes, food and fun!

Tot Purim Service is scheduled for Saturday, February 27, at 6:00 PM. Refreshments will be served after the service.

Learning opportunities for February: It is healthy heart month. As a family, take time to plan and make a healthy dinner and find a new way to exercise.

The Early School children continue to love “The First Thursday of the Month Entertainment and Pizza Parties” provided by the Parents’ Council. This month the children will be entertained by Tommy Knucklehead on February 4, 2010. His show is always a favorite among the children (and teachers)!

Once again, our Family Fun Day was a huge success. Everyone who attended had a great time. It was a perfect way to spend a cold Sunday in January with games, rides, food and prizes.

We send a special thank you to the Family Fun Day Committee: Deborah Jacob, Caryn Epstein, Illana Lebersfeld, Randy Roth, Rebecca Bialick and Kelly Wilson-Schultz. We appreciate all their time and energy that made Family Fun Day a big success. We also thank all the Hey Class students and High School students who volunteered that day. And of course, we thank Tracey Bent and his staff for always making our events run smoothly.

We wish you all a great mid-winter recess and look forward to seeing you in March. If you would like to take part in any of our upcoming events or have any suggestions or questions, please contact us.
