February is going to be another extremely active month for Men’s Club—so full, in fact that we are actually starting on Sunday, January 31, with our annual Men’s Club Sports Breakfast. Beginning at 9:00 AM, President Jeff Grabelle, Mitch Katz and a few others will once again be the Iron Chefs preparing our traditional bagel, eggs and FAMOUS French toast. As you already know, our speaker this year is “The Schmoozer,” Steve Somers of New York sports talk radio WFAN. Steve has been an on-air fixture since “The FAN” debuted on July 1, 1987. For only $10 per person (children under Bar/Bat Mitzvah age are free), you get a gourmet breakfast and the opportunity to hear one of the best sports personalities around. Maybe we’ll even find out who “The Schmoozer” thinks will win the Super Bowl!
Our next Sunday Morning Minyan with Rabbi Kulwin will be held on February 7 beginning at 9:00 AM. At our last Minyan, R
abbi Kulwin introduced us to a “new” traditional Siddur very different from what we are used to at our Saturday morning services. We have decided to use this as our regular Siddur for the Sunday Morning Minyans. All Temple members and their families should make a special effort to attend this spiritual event. A Kiddush will be held following the short service, at which time we will celebrate Jack Oelbaum’s 101st birthday!!
T
he busy month continues with Paula Dow, Governor Chris Christie’s choice for New Jersey Attorney General, speaking on Thursday, February 25, at 7:30 PM. Her talk entitled "A Tough Prosecutor with a Human Touch" is sure to be informative and enlightening.
Who wants to be on the Temple B’nai Abraham Men’s Club softball team? Games are played on Sunday morning
s in Livingston, and the season runs from April to June. The team is in transition and therefore has lots of openings. Come to the Men's Club Dinner Meeting on this date (February 25)at 6:45 PM, preceding the Paula Dow program, to get all the information about the softball team. All Men’s Club members are eligible to participate.
Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, is observed on the 27th of Nissan. The yellow candle which Men’s Club will provide to each Temple family is to be lit on Sunday night, April 11. Why do I mention this in February? So you can add this important date to your calendar and look for additional information about a program to commemorate this important observance.
So, it should be clear to all that Men’s Club is an active, participatory, thriving arm of the TBA community. As both an officer and long-time member of TBA Men’s Club, I extend an invitation to everyone to come out and attend our events. They are exciting, informative and just plain fun.
