Men's Club

Men’s Club Springs Forward

February was a very busy month for Men’s Club. We started the month one day early, on January 31, when we held our annual Sports Breakfast, which was attended by 110 men, women and children who enjoyed a home cooked meal and spent time listening to the Schmoozer himself, Steve Somers of WFAN. Special thanks to the kitchen crew captains Mitch Katz and Jeff Roth for cracking all those eggs and serving up delicious French toast.

On February 7, twenty-eight members of Men’s Club, along with their spouses and family members, participated in a morning minyan service that was led by Rabbi Kulwin. This year, Men’s Club also joined 192 other synagogues from around the world, and 8,600 fellow Men’s Club members in a World Wide Tefillan Wrap.  After services, we celebrated the 101st birthday of fellow congregant and Men’s Club member Jack Oelbaum. A good time was had by all who attended.

On February 23, Men’s Club assisted the Religious School in the showing of the short film “The Pigeon,” which was viewed by the Hey Class in preparation for Yom Hashoah. The film was educational, thought provoking, inspiring and moving for all who viewed it.

Rescheduling Notes:Due to the snowstorm, we postponed the February 25th dinner meeting and informational session for the formation of the Men’s Club sponsored TBA softball team, as well as the co-sponsored event with Sisterhood that featured Paula Dow, Attorney General of the State of New Jersey. We will be holding the dinner meeting and softball information session preceding the special Rachel Coalition program on Thursday, March 25. We are pleased that Attonrey General Paula Dow will join us on Tuesday, May 4.

March promises to be a very busy month too.
  • On Sunday, March 7, at  8:30 AM, please join us for Morning Minyan with Rabbi Kulwin,  followed by a bagel breakfast.
·                      On Thursday, March 11, at 7:30 PM, Sisterhood, Men’s Club, Early School Parents' Council and PTA will sponsor a special presentation just in time for Passover. Authors of 300 Ways to Ask the Four Questions and the subjects of a PBS television program, Murray Spiegel and Rickey Stein, will use multimedia to give you fabulous ideas to make the Passover Seder more meaningful for your entire family, from toddlers to grandparents! Dessert and coffee will be served.

·                      On March 23, at 6:45 PM, we once again work with the Hey Class to pack and send Yom HaShoah candles to the congregation.

·                       On Thursday, March 25, at 7:30 PM, Men’s Club and Sisterhood will co-sponsor an event featuring speakers from the Rachel Coalition, whose mission is to improve the lives of those affected by domestic violence by providing a comprehensive and coordinated response in the MetroWest Jewish community and in the community at large. Details can be found on the TBA website www.tbanj.org.
·                       Due to the success of our last two minyan services, Men’s Club added another Sunday morning minyan service with Rabbi Kulwin on March 7. A bagel breakfast will be served after services.

Men’s Club is always looking for new ideas for events and programming. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Jeff Grabelle, Men’s Club President, at sportsjefe@aol.com.
