Friday, March 5, at 7:30 PM: Kabbalat Shabbat Dinner & Symposium
sponsored by Sisterhood & Men's Club
Professor of Politics and Government at Ben Gurion University in Israel Fred Lazin brings his extensive knowledge and experience to Temple B’nai Abraham for the March Kabbalat Symposium, “Obama and Netanyahu: A New Era in U.S.-Israel Relations.”
Since he will spend the preceding week in Israel, his observations will be fresh and current. The program will address the ways that the elections of President Obama and Prime Minister Netanyahu, the wars in Lebanon, Gaza and Iraq, and the rise of Hamas and Iran have affected Israel and the prospects for a settlement with the Palestinians, Syrians and the Arab World in general.

Since its inception in 1997, Rachel Coalition has counseled and helped women (and men) involved in abusive relationships. Led by Jewish Family Services Executive Director Reuben Rotman, Rachel Coalition Past Chair Lesley Frost and Rachel Coalition Speakers’ Bureau Chair Myrna Wertheimer, this eye-opening program will alert attendees to warning signs of abusive relationships so they can help friends or relatives in need. They will enlighten us about the extent of the problem in our local community and give us information as to how such situations are handled once someone reaches out to Rachel Coalition for help. Coffee and dessert will be served.
April 13: Spring Gala Fundraiser
Plans are underway for the 2010 Spring Gala fundraiser. Watch subsequent bulletins for more information. If you would like to serve on the planning committee, please contact Elena Meinhardt (decafeskim@comcast.net ) or Debbie Myers (dldm@aol.com).
The meeting at the Ethereal Day Spa was so much fun. Twenty-five women met for a bagel breakfast and three entertaining and informative makeovers and endomologie demonstrations, performed on Jane Eisenstat, Bunny Schwartz and JoAnn LeBenger. The spa was a beautiful setting, and we all had a great time.
Judaica Shop
As Passover and the Bar/Bat Mitzvah season get into full swing, don’t forget to visit our Judaica Gift Shop for appropriate gifts and ritual items. Run by long-time gift maven Miriam Mitnick, the shop is stocked with beautiful items for Pesach, B’nai Mitzvot and more. It’s the perfect place to purchase a tallit for the Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebrant and dad. No need to trek into the Lower East Side; Miriam has access to a myriad of catalogs and the same items found in New York City. If you don’t see what you want, the Sisterhood Judaica Shop can get it for you! We even have extra large tallit for tall men and can provide custom kippot for your guests. Remember that the Temple office can help you if the shop isn’t open. For more information, e-mail President Susan Fein at solar4444@aol.com.
Donations of Etz Chaim
Would you like to recognize a loved one or a special occasion in a way that is both meaningful and long-lasting? Your $50 donation will purchase a copy of Etz Chaim, our new congregational machzor. The book purchased with your donation will contain a bookplate including the names of the donor and honoree and will reside in our beautiful sanctuary for use during our regular services. Donations may be made either “in honor of” or “in memory of” a loved one. Please send your check to the Temple, to the attention of Sisterhood.
