From the President & Officers

Temple B'nai Abraham...Going From Strength to Strength

Edward Meinhardt, President & Julie M. Silbermann, Vice-President

January hit a high note with this year's annual fundraiser, "We Get By with A Little Help From Our Friends" event on January 9.  It was a tremendous success in many ways—we honored nine well-deserving members and friends of our congregation, our Temple looked magnificent and it was the party of the year! In addition, the event was a financial success, exceeding our budgeted goal.

A special Toda Roba for all of their hard work, love and dedication to Linda Pack and Hyla Weiss, Co-Chairs of our Ways and Means Committee, Susan Silberman and Suzanne Unger, Catering Committee Co-Chairs,  and Randi Jeddis, Merle Kalishman and Elena Meinhardt, Tribute Album Chairs.  Heartfelt thanks to Gail Milchman, Tracey Bent and their staff - for everything they do for us on a daily basis.   The evening's success is attributed to their collective efforts and everyone who participated and supported this event.

I hope this is the beginning of a wonderful year for Temple B'nai Abraham.

B’Shalom
Ed

I have been involved with Temple B’nai Abraham for many years and am now privileged to serve as a Vice President and as the liaison to the Fair Share Committee and the Board of Education. Fair Share helps to ensure that our budget is balanced. Because dues do not cover our expenses, we look to our congregants to generously give their Fair Share to help maintain programming and events for everyone. The Board of Education is responsible for the education of our youngest toddlers through our high school students. In addition to the Early School, Primary School, Religious School, Confirmation Class and High School Institute, the Board of Education oversees the Parents’ Council and the PTA. We have many involved parents and can always use more volunteers. Please consider becoming involved with our parents’ groups. Your kids will greatly benefit from your involvement.

Even though I am familiar with our committees and groups, I am always amazed at the scope of activities Temple B’nai Abraham offers to its congregants. From the youngest children to our more senior members, there is always something going on to entice, educate and edify. Our congregation is involved in such a wide range of activities, and our calendar is always full. Let us keep you involved and interested; let us teach you something new; let us give you a sense of spiritual fulfillment.

The month of February is busy with something for everyone! We start off the month with a celebration of Tu B’Shevat, a Kabbalat Shabbat Dinner and Symposium with speaker and a Men’s Club event. Then we move right on to our Purim celebrations. For our Early School, Primary School, and Religious School, the Purim Carnival is a don’t miss event! The Purim Carnival will take place on Wednesday, February 24, from 4–6 PM. The kids love it! And don’t miss our Purim Shpiel presented on Sunday, February 28, at 7:00 PM. by our own Temple B’nai Abraham Players. Also not to be missed for any age is our Megillah reading on Saturday, February 27, at 7:00 PM. Don’t forget those groggers and costumes!

In addition to these events, our Men’s Club is planning a dinner meeting on Thursday, February 25, followed by speaker Paula Dow, who is the current Essex County Prosecutor and the new governor’s nominee for New Jersey Attorney General. This should be a very informative and interesting presentation. Our families are busy with the Soup Kitchen on Sunday, February 14, and our Teen Tikkun Olam Group meets on Sunday, February 21

Get the idea? There is always something going on for everyone. All it takes is for you to look at our calendar and join up! You will be glad you did. Remember—Temple B’nai Abraham is always here for you, and we hope you will take advantage of our many programs, activities, groups and events.
